A Port Townsend Treasure

I’ve been exploring the peninsula of Washington for a little over a week now. My initial assessment is that if you can handle the continual overcast skies and frigid cold, nature will aptly reward you for your tolerance.

And while I am enjoying my time here, I’ve been unsuccessfully searching for some small-town charm to enrapture me. Well, that is until today.

My aunt wanted to take me to the nearby town of Port Townsend to check out the shops along the water. As it would turn out, these three blocks would make up the entirety of downtown (shocking to this Vegas girl). I lazily moseyed past the storefronts, not feeling a deep need to investigate further. But then I saw a sign (insert Ace of Base lyrics here) and things changed,

As an avid Lewis Carroll fan, my curiosity was piqued. I stepped through the doorway and into the mystical shop.

Little did I know what delight I would find from the treasures inside (or how long I could entertain myself by trying on hats).

All the hats, scarves, and baubles that fill the shelves of this storefront are handmade by the locals of Port Townsend (an eclectic collective indeed). Each piece is one-of-a-kind and slightly imperfect, oozing enchantment.

Yep. I was successfully spellbound by a hat store in the middle-of-nowhere Washington. So it goes.

Fun, isn’t it? I didn’t buy anything today; a little expensive for my travel budget. But I’ll come back one of these days. I’ve never seen anything like them. =)

I haven’t gone to the Creperie yet, but thank you so much for the tip! I’ll be sure to check it out before I leave. Just visited the Upstage tavern tonight to listen to some of the live performances. That was fun!

And thank you for the warm welcome. I’m having a good time =).

Here is their web site! http://www.waterstreetcreperie.com/
Also if you get across the bay to Seattle this restaurant is awesome as well, http://voulasoffshore.com/ It was featured on Dinners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network and the food is spectacular! SMOKEY THE SALMON is my favorite..
Three eggs scrambled with our in-house smoked Alaskan King salmon,
cream cheese and green onions. Served with hashbrowns and toast. Have a great week, Joe

the Creperie closed several years ago. It is no longer I the area as the owner was exhausted and wanted to get a regular paycheck. Thanks for visiting PT.

Hi Lois! Thanks for commenting and reading. Didn’t see anything about a creperie when I was there so that makes sense. What’s your favorite part of PT?

I like the idea of hats and find them quite amusing on other people, but on my head they just dont suit me.

As a guy with his own collection, I can honestly say you can never have enough hats!

Of course now I have “Ace of Base” going through my head. Thank you. ;)

Haha, I am quite a hat fanatic myself. I have an extensive vintage hat collection back in Vegas. Do you have a favorite hat?

And sorry about that. It was stuck in my for awhile too. There are some songs that just seem to do that sort of thing. =)

There’s a fantastic beer fest in Port Townsend the last weekend of January every year called Strange Brewfest, since breweries make beers like Squid Ink IPA… anyways, great little getaway town. Fort Warden is pretty interesting and there’s a great Thai place in PT too. :)

Hi Lindsey! Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and comment!

I’ve heard that PT has some cool festivals like that but only ones going on in the summer. Good to know there’s fun to be had over the winter months! =)

Not fond of hats but given my hair condition these days, I should opt for wearing one.

Good Morning Hilary. Fun Day Trips are the best kind. I don’t have a particular favorite place to poke around. I just roam around and if a place strikes my fancy, inside I go to check it out. You find the neatest surprises that way. :)
