Nomad Notes: Packing Rituals

You’re asking and I’m answering! In a series called Nomad Notes, I’m addressing your most frequently asked questions on nomadic life so you too can figure out how to realize your dream.

Consider these bite-sized blogs calorie-free treats of travel knowledge. =)

Getting Psyched for Your Journey Through Packing Rituals

I realized while preparing for my recent trip how much I enjoyed the art of packing and how much I’ve missed it. Just putting things in travel-sized bottles made me giddy with excitement.

I mean, I was only going to LA for a few days to partake in LA Fashion Week, but it involved a suitcase and air travel so it TOTALLY counted. It wasn’t Fiji, but I’m a suitcase half full kind of girl. It’s all about perspective. Adventure was on its way!

And even though travel can be exciting, sometimes it’s hard to get into the mindset that you’re actually going somewhere. I get e-mails constantly asking how I mentally prep for a trip. And it takes some experimenting to find what works for you.

But after finding what tasks get you in a groove, it’s like riding a bike. I’ll mindlessly going through a series of motions after printing off my boarding pass. Packing turquoise (for safe travels, health, and longevity), shoving a notebook in my purse (for blog notes), and double checking I have proper ID are all must-do’s. But there is one thing that always pumps me up for an adventure…

I make playlists.

I’m a big fan of music and I look at every adventure as a piece of my life movie that needs a soundtrack. I associate songs with memories and love creating a montage of tunes to accompany whatever adventure I’m heading on. Sometimes the songs relate to my trip. Sometimes they’re current pop hits that make me want to dance. I don’t have rules; I just include whatever makes me feel good about the impending travel.

So what’s on my playlist for LA?

Katy Perry- Roar
The Icarus Account- Favorite Girl
Sara Bareilles- I Choose You
Miley Cyrus- We Can’t Stop
Imagine Dragons- On Top of The World
Passenger- Let Her Go
Tal Bachman- She’s So High
Avicii- Wake Me Up
Hunter Hayes- I Want Crazy
Bruno Mars- Treasure

For more of my travel playlist picks, check out my list for air travel tunes and Australia.

How do you get psyched for travel? What songs would be on the soundtrack of your life movie?

Those songs fit perfectly with the adventure. I can see an LA video with them playing in the background.
