Turning 25 with Twenty One Pilots

To be honest, I’d always envisioned being incredibly successful by the time I turned twenty-five.

I don’t know why I thought I’d have it all figured out now, but five years ago I was pretty confident I’d be making six figures, have my own house on the beach, and a cute Shar Pei to travel with me around the world. All worries would cease to exist at my age; I would have a handle on life after a quarter century on this earth. It just seemed like a normal progression.

So naturally, NONE of that happened.

Instead, I spent the Big Day at the first Life is Beautiful Festival in downtown Las Vegas with over 60 bands, 50 restaurants, 25 special guests, and tens of thousands of attendees celebrating art, music, and community in Las Vegas.

I was so lucky to be able to meet some incredible people, including some of the top-billed bands of the weekend. And the best part? They sang me happy birthday. :)

Many thanks to Twenty One Pilots, Luke Steele of Empire of the Sun, and Moondog Matinee for making my twenty-fifth memorable.

So turning a quarter century wan’t what I thought it would be. But that’s okay. Because the reality was so much better.

But here’s to maybe having it all figured out by twenty-six. :)

Happy 25th Hilary! Like you, I always thought I would be successful by the time I turned 30. But life has a way of steering us in different directions and offering new challenges. But I feel a successful something may be coming soon. So glad you enjoyed your special day and keep writing!

Thank you so much, Libby! Yes, I guess I feel like asking kids where they see themselves in five/ten years is almost a silly question. Because undoubtedly your life will have so many unforeseen factors, twists, and blessings, it’s impossible to say. And in fact, saying so just limits you.

I have no doubt you’re more successful than you realize. But please keep in touch and let me know what comes! Thank you for sharing and following my journey. :)

Happy 25th! I’d say in many ways that you are way more successful now than you planned to be. True, you don’t have the house on the beach or the six figures, but you’ve made countless friends, influenced entire cultures and discovered so many wonders. You live the life of high adventure! Now that’s worth celebrating. :)

It’s very true, Gene, I’ve been blessed with so many different kinds of riches. I’m trying to stop myself from envisioning the next five years and just enjoying the journey. But of course, easier said than done. ;)

Thank you for sharing in the stories and adventures. Without supporters like you this journey would not be possible!

Hilary, 25? your just a baby:) Keep doing what your doing. Here is a little quote written by Bessie Anderson Stanley, it could easily have been written about you. Happy Birthday Hilary

“To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded.”
